It was utterly dumfounding! This teacher was telling him that one must be born a second time! But how could that be? he wondered.
Ever since Nicodemus’ mind-boggling conversation with Jesus Christ, many have been just as confused as he was concerning the truth about what it means to be born again.
Christ’s message raised curiosities among the religious of His day. Nicodemus was one of them. “The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him” (John 3:2).
Not understanding the timing of the Kingdom, Nicodemus obviously did not understand this “born again” concept: “How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?” (John 3:4). Physically, this is impossible.
Jesus answered, “Verily, Verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.” – John 3:5-7
Being born again is a new birth. (1) What happens in the new birth is not getting new religion but getting new life. (2) What happens in the new birth is not merely affirming the supernatural in Jesus but experiencing the supernatural in yourself. (3) What happens in the new birth is not the improvement of your old human nature but the creation of a new human nature — a nature that is really you, and is forgiven and cleansed; and a nature that is really new, and is being formed by the indwelling Spirit of God.
God’s love for us is not based upon our ability to come to Him on our own merits. It is based on our acceptance that Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins… and there is nothing more for us to do.
Salvation has been freely offered to everyone. Anyone who will acknowledge their need of a Saviour and accept Jesus Christ as that Saviour can be saved.
If you want to get “Born Again” by receiving Jesus into your heart, please say this prayer:
Father, I repent of my sins. I accept the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary and proclaim Him Lord over my life. Amen.
If you said this Prayer, we welcome you to God’s Family.
God Bless You.
